In 2007 Local Government Super agreed to participate as a first tier participant in the Total Environment Centre’s (TEC) Existing Buildings Project and commit to the achievement across the portfolio a base building NABERS rating average of 4.5 Stars by January 2012. These commitments were made on the basis of the guidelines detailed in TEC Existing Buildings Project: Industry Partnership Program (August 2007). LGS’ involvement in the Existing Building Project entails the following building’s participation:
The NABERS star ratings on all commercial properties, which are assessed annually, continue to improve. The 5 Star NABERS ratings listed below reflect the use of wholly renewable energy throughout the portfolio.
Our current ratings are as follows:
Retail centres to date are unable to obtain NABERS ratings however, all our shopping centres have committed to sustainability improving their green credentials and to that end have implemented a wide range of initiatives. These initiatives include solar power, water usage reduction, improved plant management, more energy efficient lighting and further enhancements to waste recycling. The enhancement and maintenance of energy, water and recycling efficiencies are ongoing challenges, and although delighted with progress to date, we will continue to scrutinize efficiencies as technology and opportunities permit. It is our intention to monitor improvements and relay these advances to Fund Members by means of the annual report and liaison with internal stakeholders. The graph below shows where the portfolio started in 2006 to date.
