Previously a member of a Public Service Superannuation Scheme

Transferring membership

for previous FSS membership to the Accumulation Scheme:

  1. set-up payroll deduction
  2. include the member details on the Contribution Return Spreadsheet; and
  3. the new employee's Tax File Number
  4. have the employee complete a Transfer-in Authority form which can be downloaded from the Scheme website

for previous SASS membership to the Retirement Scheme:

  1. determine if the cessation of employment from the previous employer is less than 3 months after they left their previous employer
  2. enquire if they completed an Application for payment or deferral of a SASS benefit form, Section 5 - How do you want to be paid? and include the name of the new employer on the form and returned to SASS
  3. ask what percentage rate they were contributing and their previous annual superable salary
  4. have the employee complete a Transfer of Contributory Membership form and send to LGS
  5. set-up payroll deduction NB: you can commence deductions from the employee's pay, however, contributions are not to be remitted until such times as the Administrator has advised the correct amounts to be paid, on the monthly bill.

for previous SSS membership to the Defined Benefit Scheme:

  1. determine if the cessation of employment from the previous employer is less than 3 months
  2. enquire if they completed an Application for payment or deferral of SSS benefits form, Section 12 - For payment of a lump sum benefit (SANCS) benefit, withdrawal benefit and / or commute pension (cont) and returned to SSS
  3. ask what contribution rate they were contributing and their previous annual superable salary
  4. have the employee complete a Transfer of Contributory Membership form and send to LGS
  5. set-up payroll deduction

NB: you can commence deductions from the employees pay, however, contributions are not to be remitted until such times as the Administrator has advised the correct amounts to be paid, on the four-weekly bill.
